Greet the end of your day with a leisurely wind-down routine.
Sometimes the week can feel like running on a treadmill – just one foot in front of the other until you’re left exhausted. If you’re regularly not leaving time for yourself, you can easily fall into a routine that doesn’t love you back. Perfect for those of us who value a snooze more than early-morning meditation, our favourite wind-down tips are made for after work.
Sleep is king – if it takes us 45 minutes to get ready for the day, you can bet our alarms will be set for exactly 45 minutes before we have to leave. While the extra shuteye is much appreciated, this doesn’t leave any time in the morning for mindfulness. That’s why we’ve shifted our quiet time to the first hour after we’re done with work. Perfect for reading or journaling, you can use this time to reflect on the day that was and plan for tomorrow. Set up a cosy reading nook with a snug armchair and plenty of cushions, so you can get through a chapter or two of your current book before you get started on dinner.
Draw a line between your workday and home time with a moment of mindfulness. Chances are that you didn’t have time for a workout in the morning - which is why we like to blend activity with meditation. Push your coffee table to the side, lay down a yoga mat, and pop on your favourite yoga flow video. Perfect for switching over to a peaceful mindset, yoga gives you the chance to process and let go of any work-related thoughts that are sticking around. Tailor your style of yoga to your mood – whether that means a high-intensity session or a relaxation flow. There’s nothing better than a golden hour sun salutation.
A moment to yourself doesn’t necessarily mean a moment alone. If you’re looking to decompress, there’s nothing better than a chat with a friend. Gather your favourite people around for a casual mid-week dinner to help make hump day go a little faster. We love setting up an easy no-cook platter of dips, crusty bread, cheeses, and meze – because who has time to whip up a four-course dinner after work? From debriefing (or venting!) over a cuppa, to having a big belly laugh with family, social time is the perfect way to end the day.
